I have reviewed old version of cloud antivirus in March. The manufacture has since updated the software to include a lot of new features and as always; completely for free. The latest updates take Panda Cloud Antivirus 1.1 and make it a more main stream in functionality. The first major improvement is a new behavioral blocking system which Is essentially heuristic protection. Panda Cloud Antivirus will now scan malicious action executed through word macros to pdf files. Sometimes these files can contain additional stealth executables which can run a virus upon execution. The behavior blocking system relies on predefined rules like a firewall. If an application trips a rule (creates a rouge dns request), the activity is stopped. The next major improvement with Panda Cloud Antivirus 1.1 that I like is its coexisting capability. This is very similar to Norton Security Scan and Spyware doctor in that they can be installed along side any existing free AV software such as AVG and not create any conflicts. Coexisting capability also allows for potentially twice the protection when compared to a single antivirus’s capability.
The next notable new feature is a full scan option. The previous version of cloud antivirus only had a quick scan option. Quick scans, while convenient, can frequently miss viruses. Almost every time that I have personally found a virus via a quick scan, I subsequently found a virus via a full scan. Therefore, the full scan is again a feature that makes Panda Cloud Antivirus 1.1 more like a mainstream antivirus software.
The final improvement I want to highlight is the additional configuration that is now available. A user can now modify how frequently the software connects to the cloud (great for laptops on battery power in that the software doesn’t need to waste power constantly using the wireless connection), more advanced logging which wasn’t available before that allows a user quickly review the location, time and virus detected, and an exclusion list to prevent files from being scanned that may be marked as so called malware.
In conclusion, there are a lot of improvements to Panda Cloud Antivirus 1.1 and enough to merit a new download and reinstall.
